Seven East Jordan High School graduates won 4-year Rotary Scholarships and one student received a one-year award in 2021. The winners were Nathaniel Newman, Steven Streasick, Josh Nise, Madelyn Reece, Shannon Schlueter, Lauren Smith, Emmah Wojan, and Sage Upton.

Academic and Leadership Awards

Academic and Leadership Awards are based on academic performance, SAT score, college prep classes, leadership roles held, school involvement, community service, and awards and honors received.    

  • Nathaniel Newman and Steven Streasick won Academic and Leadership Scholarships valued at $8,900 each. 

East Jordan Rotary Opportunity Scholarship

The East Jordan Rotary Opportunity Scholarship was created by John B. Smith (pictured) , a long-time Rotarian with a passion for education.  A retired educator and superintendent, John Smith established the fund to reward the potential of qualifying East Jordan High School graduates planning to attend an in-state accredited voc-tech program, community college, OR  a  four-year public college or university. Cumulative GPA must be within the range of 2.0 - 3.5 .  All of the following scholarships are renewable for up to four years.

  • Madelyn Reece, Shannon Schlueter, Lauren Smith, and Emmah Wojan received 4-year Opportunity Scholarship awards of $20,000 each. 
  • Josh Nise received a $19,000 Opportunity Scholarship to be awarded over 4 years.
 

Bryce Vance Scholarship

  • Sage Upton, who was a Rotary Exchange Student in Ecuador in 2019-20, won the Bryce Vance Scholarship of $2,000. Our scholarship recipients joined us at the Change of Command dinner on June 30.
